A Heartbreaking Event Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home at the weekend. “We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.” Charges Filed Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body. “I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan continued. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.” A Statement from Siblings Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy shared a statement today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “The tragic, shattering loss of our parents is an experience no one should have to face. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.” Peers Pay Their Respects Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, similarly honored Reiner via comments shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks. “His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” it read. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.” An Enduring Filmography When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay. Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal. Reiner’s extensive filmography comprised classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
