🔗 Share this article The Showrunner Discloses He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... At the Moment. The creative mastermind could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.” As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus. Regarding the Overwhelming Fan Response It would be easy to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. He is striving to avoid both. “It feels like constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.” Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show. “It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by what people are saying.” “Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds. A Pressing Query: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus? Given that the writers aren’t being guided by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of. “There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.” On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup. “I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.” Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales? “My dream is Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes. Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
