The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition composed by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will love its presence.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and YouTube.
