The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four distinct personas, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie hospital, though other scenes show the protagonist exploring a abandoned church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around managing the persona that surfaces at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous flowers growing from their heads should be. Flowers are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can lie or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to follow on digital storefronts.
