Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his future after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Player Response

Slot highlighted known failings from his team in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with results this poor.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
