Seamer Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Major setback' for the touring side after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the ground early on day two in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January starts this coming Sunday.

England have previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was omitted from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 while batting among just a trio of England players who passed ten runs.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back the next day and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he bowled a variation to the batsman and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match after being left out the Adelaide game.
