A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by a trio of assailants, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.

The reason of the incident remains unclear and no one has been arrested have taken place, according to authorities.

The Fatal Incident

Law enforcement indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a building near the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the building overseeing the setup of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, it was reported.

"Authorities believe the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," an official report confirmed.

Security camera video showed a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what resembled a guard's attire shooting on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.

Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the attack.

Important clues, like cartridges, were discovered at the crime scene.

Appeal for Witnesses

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and investigators have been tracking them to find their whereabouts," stated a police chief.

A Nation in Mourning

His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the loved ones are reeling to process his death.

"I am devastated. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about issues not many people were willing to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."

She requested the citizens to avoid sharing graphic images from the incident, explaining this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's children.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that premiered on a popular local TV network.

Apart from his media career, Stock was involved in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including private security, providing VIP protection services and securing major functions across South Africa.

He was also reportedly involved in property management and participated in tenant removals.

His death has sent the nation reeling and led to an wave of remembrances from his followers, the government and various organizations.

A senior figure said he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.

"He expressed his views fearlessly and impartially. He even criticized me and my policies as a public official. He was a pure example of who we should be," was his tribute.

A public representative commented the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a tragedy for all South Africans".

A broadcasting director expressed that "DJ Warras was far beyond a TV personality. He was a talented storyteller, a passionate music lover and a generous spirit who brought happiness and vitality to every appearance. His dedication to creativity left an lasting impression."

In a release, the channel he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, warmth and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will be remembered".
