'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the court.

She said his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.

The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.

The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC stated materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She said the defendant proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she added.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

The legal representative explained the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the family member contacted the authorities once more.

She explained the man then played the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
