Close to 25,000 Experiencing Electricity in Queensland and Victoria Following Severe Storms

Approximately 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland were left experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after powerful weather events impacted the state, generating wind gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing power throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units working to address the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, nearly one thousand residents in Victoria also faced electricity disruptions after Melbourne experienced its wettest day in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams responded to 598 requests for assistance across the area, primarily for building damage but also for downed trees and inundation.

Most Affected Regions

  • Werribee - saw considerable weather impact
  • Hoppers Crossing - various assistance requests
  • Wyndham area - over 175 emergency requests

During the peak on the previous day, over 28,000 power users in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were expected to linger along significant areas of the state's eastern regions this week as a atmospheric system continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was predicted as the wettest day, with ongoing storm activity anticipated across multiple regions of both areas.

Safety Concern

Health officials alerted that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This alert comes after past events where similar conditions led to significant health impacts in the region.
